Crazy as this all sounds, C-SPAN's Chris Plante did provide a brief piece of background and explanation. In his piece, Plante provides some insight into the background to what C-SPAN was trying to accomplish:

A week before the presidential election, C-SPAN decided to air a segment about C-SPAN's work on cable reform for the White House Christmas Party, which was scheduled to be broadcast Jan. 28.

"When the president of C-SPAN came on camera, we had our plan of action, we thought we were going to do what we had to do," the cable channel president, Tom McInerney, said in a phone interview. "You want to find something the president doesn't know and try to make sure he doesn't look like he didn't know." "It was like, 'Okay, we're going to do this, we're going to do that,'" he said. "So we went in there and there was the president sitting right in front of me with his hands on his hips and he was saying, 'I don't do these sort of things for him, I don't give a shit about that. I'm doing it for people like you, you know, the people I'm gonna talk to.'"

That was the last we know about that segment.

The story of what made this so embarrassing, how C-SPAN's politics could never be seen for the truth it truly was, is just now coming to light in a little more detail through a few very revealing court documents that we posted here on PJ Media.

First, a little history:

In March of 2006, C-SPAN decided to air their campaign-style, political commentaries with President Bush when he was still a member of the United States Congress, so to speak. But they were going to air the segment in a private, closed-off room on Air Force One, at the White House. C-SPAN was on the right, in a public place of a different sort that wasn't even meant to be the president's seat, but it was. The President's press secretary told a group of reporters at the time that it was C-SPAN's "first time in public" because he was "so excited" about that.

Remote senior drivers charged 280 to renew licence

LONGWAVE – The Long Beach County Transportation Authority announced it is issuing 200,000 permits to prospective drivers this winter. The agency said the authority was unable to verify each driver's identity, but the agency said it will make sure each person will pass a background check.

The permit renewal process is intended to allow for future drivers to get a better view of how quickly the county transportation infrastructure works.

"By renewing their driver's licenses we can better assess the drivers' capabilities, work with employers and ensure we have drivers on the roads in a timely manner," said LBIA Director of Public Information Steve Kowalczyk. "This will also allow us to build on recent improvements in technology that will help improve our transportation operations and improve customer experience."

Permits are required in August of the previous calendar year and renewals will go out to drivers through the LBIA's driver-interim system.

A total of 280,000 permits will be issued this winter to prospective drivers. Permits issued will be for driver education classes and will expire at the end of October.

Permits are available at all LBIA locations.

The LBIA's new summer employment program, where LBIA offers temporary and permanent employment to drivers with valid driver licenses, has increased traffic. In the last few weeks, the agency added 20 to 35 employees to work with clients.

"The winter months draw the most traffic," said LBIA director of public information Steve Kowalczyk. "We're working with employers and local governments to bring new traffic to their properties."
